A brief announcement from the KSA MOH overnight informs us of two new MERS-CoV cases (1 in Riyadh, 1 in the `Eastern region’).

The first, a 41 year-old Saudi female it describes  as `from the contacted people to one of the confirmed cases’, which implies she was a contact of a previously confirmed case.  The second, a 32 year-old cancer patient (gender not given), is currently in an ICU.

Up until very recently the average patient profile in Saudi Arabia has overwhelmingly been male, with an average age in the late 50s.

The following chart shows the last 10 reported cases reported by the KSA MOH, as logged in FluTrackers MERS-CoV Case list, maintained by Sharon Sanders.

Among the last 10 cases - of the 7 cases where the gender is known, 6 are female - and the average age has shifted downward to 38.

Whether this signifies an actual trend or is just a temporary blip in the data, is something we’ll have to see more information in order to determine.

Here is the KSA MOH statement, which also informs us of the death of previously announced case from the `Eastern region’.
