Guangdong, Shanghai & Zhejiang Add New H7N9 Cases

As usual, reports are coming in piecemeal this morning from the various provinces in China where new H7N9 cases have been detected.  Thus far, we’ve 2 official announcements (2 cases in Guangdong Province, 1 in Shanghai) and media accounts of another case (not yet posted on the MOH site) in Zhejiang Province.

 

 

Guangdong Province to add two cases of human infection with H7N9 bird flu

Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province on January 15 briefing, the province confirmed two cases of human infection with the H7N9 avian influenza.

Case 1 patient Xie Moumou, male, 48 years old, currently residing in the town of Nanhai District, Foshan City. January 15 confirmed human cases of avian influenza H7N9 infection. Currently in critical condition, in Foshan City, the designated hospital for treatment.


Case 2 patients surname Wang, male, 55 years old, now living Zhangmutou. January 15 confirmed human cases of avian influenza H7N9 infection. Currently in critical condition, in Shenzhen designated hospital for treatment.

 

 

Confirmed cases of H7N9 avian influenza reported one case of human infection in Shanghai

Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission January 15 briefing, H7N9 bird flu case in Shanghai, reported one case of human infection.


Patients Wu Moumou, male, 35 years old, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province domicile. Confirmed on January 4, is now a city hospital for treatment.

According to state regulations, from November 1, 2013 the city began infected with H7N9 avian influenza has been incorporated into human B infectious management.

 

 

While it has yet to appear on the Zhejiang MOH website, this reports of this next case are appearing in multiple media outlets.  If confirmed, this would be the 7th day in a row that Zhejiang Province has reported new cases.

We will probably see a more complete round up of today’s cases from Hong Kong’s CHP later today.

 

Despite the continual rise in cases, thus far they appear to be sporadic, and few have been epidemiologically linked.

 

Meaning that while some small clusters have occurred, there are no signs that the virus has learned to spread from human-to-human in an efficient or sustained fashion.
